Our patron's new book

Caroline's book Shining a Light on Art is now available on Amazon.

In The Shining Light of Art, Caroline Powell presents a striking debut collection that brings together art, photography, and poetry to explore the Northeast of England through a lens of memory, change, and quiet resilience.

From fading seaside towns and worn streets to intimate moments of everyday beauty, these works are rooted in nostalgia—capturing places and feelings on the brink of disappearance. Powell’s images and words do not shy away from decay or loss, but instead embrace them, revealing the poetry found in weathered walls, empty spaces, and echoes of the past: http://amzn.to/4aeddOK

Will the UK Internet Safety Act imapact negatively on disabled & Older people?

It is very plausible that the Online Safety Act may have unintended negative impacts on disabled and older people, primarily due to digital exclusion, accessibility barriers, and service changes driven by compliance costs. Evidence from disability and ageing charities strongly suggests these groups are already disproportionately affected by the UK’s digital‑first shift.

I often wonder if government do an impact assessment, and if so, who is involved!

Social Media Ban for Under 16's

The UK governemnt are considering copying Australia's ban of social media for under 16's. However, not all experts agree on this.

Not everyone agrees that a full ban is the best solution. Some digital health researchers argue that evidence on age-based bans is still limited.

Experts suggest that a balanced approach may work better, combining:

  • Stronger moderation of harmful content.

  • Safer algorithms for younger users.

  • Better digital literacy for children and parents.

I'm not convinced. Surely its taking away responsibility from platforms; social media companies need to moderate better to keep all of us safe! This link to the Register has valid points about this: https://www.theregister.com/2026/01/21/uk_social_media_ban/
